Sedation Dentistry

Sedation DentistryDoes visiting the dentist give you anxiety? You’re not alone. Statistics show that about 15 percent of Americans suffer from dental anxiety, and in some cases, dental phobia can cause a paralyzing fear of getting dental treatment. That’s where IV sedation can help.

With IV sedation, we administer a sedative through a tiny catheter placed into a vein in your hand or arm, which helps you relax if you are nervous about a treatments or if you are undergoing a procedure that may cause discomfort or distress. And, IV sedation is very safe when supervised by a specially trained dentist ours.

Many of our patients prefer IV sedation, and it is generally well tolerated. The sedative will never render you unconscious. You will be awake, though pain and discomfort will be minimized or non-existent, and any nervousness or anxiety you have about your dental treatment will be greatly decreased. While you will be conscious, you may not fully remember your dental appointment. (Be sure to make arrangements with someone to drive you home after your appointment.) IV sedation can sometimes slow down your breathing, so our team will place a small light probe on the tip of your finger or ear lobe, so that we can continuously monitor your heart rate and oxygen levels before, during, and after the procedure.
